Friend Pen is going to Australia at the end of the month, and I thought it would be good to make her a bag that she might find useful to take with her. And so, I used Lisa Lam's tutorial on using a hex frame. I also used the last remaining bits of the Hong Kong fabric.
That fabric was, and I'm guessing here, about .8 of a metre - but wide, very wide. About as wide as Missouri. I made two large totes, and the Pen Bag below, which is a good size at 30cm x 20cm x 8cm - plus a small flex-opening change purse, and a straight-frame change purse. Three large bags - two small bags - and some really tiny scraps left.
And here's the third bag - ready to fly off to Penny in Canada - wish I were going with it.
The Pen Bag
The bag with its hex frame open - and note how it stays open for fishing around. I thought this might be good for finding stuff whilst balancing a coffee and a passport and a customs official. It has a zippered pocket inside, which is passport size.
It's also got feet! And a bag bottom tucked inside, and lots of interfacing and even some boning so it should be able to keep its shape during the long, long trip to Oz. Oh, and the straps have fleece inside so they will be comfortable on the old shoulder.
Thanks for the tut, Lisa! And Pen, my friend - I hope you like this ....
